Another view on Sandy Hook School Shooting, by Cockatoo.

My article is about the speech of the president of United States: Barack Obama, who addressed an audience about the mass shooting of Sandy Hook elementary school.
A heavily armed gunman opened the fire on this school and killed at least twenty-six people, including twenty children.
Barack Obama delivered the most impassioned speech of his presidency on sunday night, addressing the fifteen grieving families of Newtown.
He said the "carnage" of mass shootings must end.

He promised to engage law enforcement, parents, educators and others in a dialogue on how to prevent further mass shootings.

Furthermore, we cannot accept events like this as routine.

Obama talked about the burden he has had to carry, as all modern US presidents do, of comforting the survivors of mass shootings and consoling the families of victims.
More over, he travelled to Fort Hood (Texas) the 5th November 2009; to Tucson (Arizona) the 8th January 2011 and Aurora (Colorado) the 20th July.
All these travels were to remember the persons who were killed in many places.
Obama's oratory was not the only poignant point in this exceptionnal evening.
There was the haunting singing by Rabbi Shaul Praver of Congregation Adath Israel of El Maleh Rachamim, the Hebrew prayer for the soul of the departed traditionally chanted at a funeral.

More over, there was the reading of Psalm 23 by the episcopal pastor Kathleen Adams-Shepard. Obama said " I'll use whatever power I have to prevent the type of tragedy that occured in Newtown".
The president also read out slowly ,and stopping occasionally , the names of the twenty children who lost their lives that Friday, to contain his own emotions:

" God has called them all home, To those of us who remain, let us find the strengh to carry on and make our country worthy of their memory"
His main message is: "We can't tolerate this anymore. These tragedies must end. And to end, we must change".

  3. Now Americans have just to wait and see if Obama's promise will be true, although it must be quite difficult to prevent mass shootings like this one ..
