About Viola Davies winning an award...

Remember, last week, Viola Davies won an Emmy... and made history:

She quotes Harriet Tubman. Do you know her?

Harriet Tubman (born Araminta Ross c. 1822 – March 10, 1913) was an African-American abolitionist, humanitarian, and, during the American Civil War, a Union spy. Born into slavery, Tubman escaped and subsequently made some thirteen missions to rescue approximately seventy enslaved family and friends, using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad. She later helped abolitionist John Brown recruit men for his raid on Harpers Ferry, and in the post-war era struggled for women's suffrage.
Born a slave in Dorchester County, Maryland, Tubman was beaten and whipped by her various masters as a child. Early in life, she suffered a traumatic head wound when an irate slave owner threw a heavy metal weight intending to hit another slave and hit her instead. The injury caused dizziness, pain, and spells of hypersomnia, which occurred throughout her life. She was a devout Christian and experienced strange visions and vivid dreams, which she ascribed to premonitions from God.
In 1849, Tubman escaped to Philadelphia, then immediately returned to Maryland to rescue her family. Slowly, one group at a time, she brought relatives with her out of the state, and eventually guided dozens of other slaves to freedom. Traveling by night and in extreme secrecy, Tubman (or "Moses", as she was called) "never lost a passenger". Her actions made slave owners anxious and angry, and they posted rewards for her capture. When a far-reaching United States Fugitive Slave Law was passed in 1850, she helped guide fugitives further north into Canada, and helped newly freed slaves find work.
When the US Civil War began, Tubman worked for the Union Army, first as a cook and nurse, and then as an armed scout and spy. The first woman to lead an armed expedition in the war, she guided the raid at Combahee Ferry, which liberated more than seven hundred slaves. After the war, she retired to the family home on property she had purchased in 1859 in Auburn, New York, where she cared for her aging parents. She was active in the women's suffrage movement until illness overtook her and she had to be admitted to a home for elderly African-Americans that she had helped to establish years earlier. After she died in 1913, she became an icon of American courage and freedom.

But it's interesting to get other opinions, and see reactions to Viola's already famous speech:

Did you watch the Bloodmoon, on Monday?

Essena's presentation, and Detectives that are real...

Hi everyone !

I'm Essena (I am a girl in case you didn't know it) and I am 17 years old.
I have 2 brothers, (one older, one younger) and I live in Rians, the city of the cheese strainer, did you know it?
Well, I love swimming, I did 8 years of synchronized swimming but I stopped for many reasons.
I love listening to rock music, old music especially and I don't have too many hobbies or talents but that's fine.

Today, I am going to talk about something I love :

True Detective

I am this kind of girl who is obsessed by TV series...

[I know another grown-up one! Mrs P.]

True Detective is a new televison drama produced in 2014 by HBO, an American premium cable.

It is written and directed by a literature teacher : Nic Pizzolato.

The series has two different seasons, each season consists of 8 episodes.
Created with an anthology format in mind, every season will feature a different cast of characters and story.
My favourite is the first season, it is so exciting, that's why I am going to talk more specifically about it.

Season one is based on a book, The King in Yellow by Robert Chambers, and focused on two detectives :

Rust Cohle (played by Matthew McConaughey) and Martin Hart (played by Woody Harrelson) as they ended up crossing paths while hunting a serial killer in Louisiana for 17 years.

The season begins with the discovery of a satanic manslaughter.
The victim is Dora Lange, she is sitting naked in front of a tree.
So, the two partners try to find clues to know and arrest the murderer of this tragedy.

Seventeen years later, Cohle and Hart are interviewed separately, five days apart, about Dora Lange by detectives Thomas and Maynard.
Hart and Cohle have not spoken in ten years after a falling-out in 2002.
Cohle is shown a photograph of another girl whose body has been found posed in similar fashion to Lange.
Papania and Gilbough want to know how the killer could have struck again if he was caught in 1995...

I hope that this little presentation was interesting, I really enjoy talking about things I love so that was a pleasure to write this article on my favourite TV series !

Thank you for reading and see you soon. -Essena ♥

The former Camello, now called Scarlett...

My arrival on the blog, my presentation, me ...

Hi guys my nickname on this blog is Scarlett, because it's the name of my perfume and I find this name funny, simply.

I'm 17 years old, I was born in may for the generous souls :)

[Be more specific: as for me, it's November 22nd... Just saying!^^ Mrs P.]

I don't have hobbies,  I just like reading.
My last reading was  Les crevettes ont le coeur dans la tête .
It's a book by Marion Michau.

She tells her love story with humour !

It's a book that I recommend for the young or old girls, mothers or single, depressed or crazy in love regardless !

But also for the man to unsterstand the female psychology ,ah ah ah!

Otherwise I like listening to all types of music.

I like going  to the cinema.

Besides my favorite movie is  La crème de la crème

This is story of three business students in one of the best schools in France.
They are going to put into practice the laws of market in relationships between the girls and boys.
They will create a network of prostitution in their campus.
Many people don't like this movie but as for me, I find it fantastic !

I think that's all, thank for reading me, xoxo

The brand new school library...

Isn't it nice?

And don't forget the Foreign Languages section!

Soon to come: A Song of Ice and Fire (A Game of Thrones), and many others (fell free to recommend books you would like to read in English!)

The Artist... aka Akaniie...

Hello \('v')/

My name here is Akaniiie, for now, I'm only 16 (don't worry I'll catch up soon -v-)
[I used to say that too... ^^ Mrs P.]

As for my hobbies and things I like...

I would say drawing?

I started very soon but like you all, at approximatively 4 or something, at school.
But I tried later on to develop those ''drawings'' I did, but dropped everything pretty soon.

Then I met good friends; friends that made me draw again because their art was pretty, and my passion for drawing just ignited again.
So, I seriously started to draw only 3 years ago.

You can take me to an art store, I'll be yelling over those beautiful markers, and such colorful paints...

Please save my wallet.

I'll be glad to show more to you some day 'v' But I still lack confidence as well as experience...

I'm also pretty much open minded so I love lots of others things, but you'll need to read a big essay if I had to write it all.

Well then, I think there's enough.

If you'd like to see some art sample just ask me by comments or something else!(I feel like a youtuber -v-, hey also don't forget to subscr-- nah)

Oh, also, nice to meet you all ovo)/
