Bonnie and the 60s...

Travelling over time is a thing which everyone wants to do but saddly it's impossible.

But one day I'll finalize an invention wich consists in travelling over time for 24 hours and only once to not disrupt History. I'll become very rich !

Personally I wish to come back to the mid-1960s with the Hippie movement.

It was a youth movement started in The United-States and The United Kingdom during the 1960's.

It was spread afterwards all around the world.

It appeared just after World War One thanks to the baby-boom.

This new generation didn't accept the traditional values, their parents's lifestyle, materialism, consumerism and all kinds of authority too.

It's a counterculture movement that emphasized personal freedom (specially sexual freedom), peace, love and genuine human relationships.

There are many hippie symbols like the peace symbol or « Power of flowers » which was a peaceful expression ( They were named flower children by the way ).

Indeed, flowers are a peaceful symbol against the war and violence.

This period seems very cool to me because I think it's like a perfect world for young people without rules to respect, without authority.

Can do what make us happy without concern  for what people think.

Also the Hippie's look is so cool, it is a casual and relaxed look.

I love it, long hair, baggy pants, long dresses, floral motif, round glasses.

Very funny.

Moreover there was lot of musics and free concerts !

But the thing that I love about the Hippie movement is travelling.

Indeed, the flower children wanted to discover the world, different countries, different people, different cultures and landscapes.

Even if they had not much money they were brave to do some soul searching themselves and figure out themselves by traveling all around the world and specially in Morocco, Turkey and India which are Southern Countries.

Hippies wanted to go far away from the Western culture that they hated. That's a thing that I would love to do.

            But there are inconvenients.

Indeed health conditions were not the things the most important to them I guess and I can't live all my life like a hippie : take a shower in a river or sleep every night in tents for example.

Also the lack of privacy could be a problem to me because I need to be sometimes alone to feel good.

In conclusion, I think that today, the world should think like hippies a little bit, want the peace and love across the world .

Suricate C would love to dance...

My travel in time happens around the dance....

In my first travel, I would like to go in 1889, more precisely on October, 6th, 1889, at the opening of the Moulin Rouge as a Cancan dancer !

I'm in love with Montmartre in this period with a bohemian life.
This period shows a madness year more festive, spectacular and shows something new in Paris.
Joseph Oller and Charles Zidler, the producers of Moulin Rouge cabaret, knew the public taste.

Indeed, This period of peace was marked by the asian current.
This cabaret shows many western decorations with a big elephant at the entrance of Moulin Rouge , gold etc...
More impressive for this period !

I love this very spectacular atmosphere.

I would just like to change something in this century.
This is the role of the dancers in this world of boheme.
Indeed, I'd remove the prostitution of this cabaret dancers, so that they can freely dance for the pleasure of dancing.
And I would like to change too the nickname of dancers like «  La goulue » , « Grille d'égout » or « la Môme Fromage ».

In my second travel, I would like to go in 1930's, to meet Fred Astaire.

Fred Astaire is for me, A SYMBOL of the dance history.
He was an American dancer, choregrapher, singer, musician and actor ( a perfect man for me ! ).
Such a  career for 76 years !
He made 31 musical films.
In  many films, we can see Ginger Rogers, a partner of Fred Astaire.
Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers was a famous duet of the years.

I would like to take the place of Ginger Roger to dance with Fred Astaire and I would like to dance with Fred Astaire on his famous song « I won't dance » ( My favourite song of this man).

I don't want to change anything in this period because it is the "Roaring Twenties" and it is a funny period.

Last Friday we had a visitor...

Nqobile, a South African Language Assistant, who answered our questions on South Africa .

It was very interesting and we learnt a lot.

Thank you Nqobile!

Apote and Lucy...

If I could travel back in time, I would like to live during the caveman's era because when I used to study about them as a kid, it always made me asking a lot of questions.

I find it interesting to learn more about our origins.

If I would travel back in time for it I'd just belong to a kind of monkeys but I find it funny !

Maybe I would have discovered fire, who knows !

I would have loved to see how well (or not) I could live without electricity and new technologies form nowadays ; just at  the begining of the universe, on a clean and all new planet Earth...

Watching the drawings on the caves' walls instead of watching TV.

Of course there are some disadvantages like health issues and the simple fact that I could die just by eating a deathly mushroom !

Anyway, maybe would Lucie sign me an authograph if I met her between two mammoths' huntings !

Akanie's article (part two)

Part II
It was the 9th of the month, Mary Jane found me a little job at the library so I could talk with scientists who came there everyday and try to get back home.

One said he might know how to travel in time...

Even though I was doubting it, was it worth a try ? So this day we ended up talking until late in the evening or night.

I finally decided to come home, I mean to Mary's place, the door's lock was broken so I could enter whenever I want, I just had to know the trick to open the door.

And as I was walking up the stairs, I heard a shriek...

The loudest I ever heard and I could sense fear in it.
I rushed to the door and before I could do anything, the voice stopped and I heard weird noises...
I couldn't move...And suddenly, I saw blood flawing under my feet and I remembered...

Today was Jack the Ripper's last murder, the one of Mary Jane Kelly which took place November the 9th, 1888

Still shocked by what I discovered, I tried to run away but then... our eyes met.

That was not a love story like meeting, his eyes where full of hatred towards her, and me.
I sensed no fear nor panick surrounding him.

Nothing but the smell of death overflowing, red stains on his face, and a killer gaze.

I knew I had to leave, but know I understand people in the movies...

My legs wouldn't move an inch, fear was paralysing them and my whole body and soul froze.

He started walking towards me, a knife in his hands...
I took a step back but the blood made me slip. All I could remember was myself falling down the stairs and everything becoming pitch black.

And suddenly... I woke up.

As I tried to open my eyes I heard a voice, ''Can you stand up ?'' she said, reaching her hand towards me ; but all I could do was laying on the ground, watching my surroundings.

Finally on my feet, I tried to figure out what happened, the streets looked like all I ever knew : streets full of buildings, people colorfully dressed and weird rap music I still can't understand.
I was back.
My friend was there, waving her hand in front me.

Yeah everything was back to normal, except I was dressed as a victorian lady and my feet were covered in red.

Akaniie's article (part one)...

Part I
And suddenly... I woke up.
As I tried to open my eyes I heard a voice, ''Can you stand up ?'' she said, her hand reaching towards me ; but all I could do was laying on the ground, watching my surroundings. Finally on my feet, I tried to figure out what had happened, the streets looked like nothing I knew.

They were full of horse-drawn carriages, fancy dressed people and old looking architecture...
Seeing how confused I was the young lady began to talk : ''Hey.. Are you ok ? Where do you come from ? Your clothes are not from here.''

As I mumbled nonsense, she added ''Are you from England ?''.
England... Waaait.
What...
Looking right and left I saw a bookstore selling Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, 1887 best seller.

Giving me time to recover the lady stayed next to me with a smile on her face and waiting for me to answer, I then said, in this poor english of mine :

''- I..I... What day it is ?

- It's November the 5th why is that ?

- Which year ?

- 1888 ? You're asking weird questions are you ok ? ''

With sparkling eyes all I could answer was ''Yes''.

The victorian era, where the houses and building have a clean and pretty architecture, women and men elegantly dressed with such detailled clothes, Conan Doyle may be writing Holmes' stories as I am daydreaming here, in the world Dickens was seeing when he wrote his famous Oliver Twist.

This is all I ever wanted to see here. I wish I could buy A study in Scarlett and meet Sir Conan Doyle as well though.

As my wild imagination stopped, the functionning parts of my brain activated.

What was I doing here, did I travel back in time ?

Whatever I should focus on finding a safe place to stay, then think about this.

As THAT lady was leaving I finally spoke full sentences :

''- Huum, thank you for your help earlier.

- Oh you're welcome, I though I'd leave since you seemed to know where you were.

- Ah, indeed I know but could I ask you something ?

- Yes, sure !

- Actually I'm a foreigner and I was looking for a place to stay, only two or three days so I was wondering if you could help me ?''

Confused at what I just said (maybe my weird accent) she stopped and agreed. ''Well you seem lost here so come, I'll help you, only if you tell me what's that weird thing in your pocket''.

She was pointing her finger towards my phone...

Maybe I screwed up, but at least I found a shelter...

And we ended up talking about me and her stories ; she had gone to France some time ago, so I taught her how to speak french properly while she did the same with me and the english they spoke at the time.

She also lent me one of her dress so people would not arrest me for wearing pants.

I enjoyed staying in that London I loved.

But things had to end. Few days later everything ended...

Happy Thanksgiving American friends!

Get up, stand up!

Hi everybody it's Fechouille !

If I could travel back in time I would like to see Bob Marley alive because I love the atmosphere of his songs and his way of life .

If I could choose a concert in particular , I'd choose the One Love concert , on 22 april 1978 because to my mind it was an historical moment to people in Jamaica .

In the 70's in Jamaica was a period of trouble . The country was divided into gangs and there was a lot of violence in the streets because of different politic movements and poverty.
There were 2 political movements: PNP (conservative) and JLP (socialist) , anyway , there was a lot of tension  and every day many people were killed by the opposite party...

Such bad period ...

Bob Marley was neutral, but he had a lot a influence on people who considered him like an idol , a superstar.

For the anecdote, he was victim of an assasination attempt in his house : a man shot him with his band .

Miraculously no one was killed , just a shot in his arm and two days after he returned on stage to do a free concert for the peace in front of 80,000 persons .

But the political gang violence was only getting worse.

But some years later the governement wanted to organize an concert for the peace , the One Love peace concert to do a truce beetwen gangs and give a message of union and calm .

The show was extraordinary , totally crazy as in a trance , some people said he had the ability to bring people together.

During the show he asked in the microphone  the leader of the party PNP and JLP to come on stage

and the two opponents shook hands .

In front of 30,000 persons they made the peace signs to Bob Marley who was a sort of symbol of peace.

That had to be a very strong moment to Jamaican people ! It's why if I could travel back in time , I would like be in the crowd to listen to Bob Marley on stage in real and to  be able to share in a symbolic moment of happiness , peace and unity .

Thank you for reading me :)
