Onche-Onche's view on French politics

I chose to present the battle in the political party : UMP

What's the problem ?

The candidates François Fillon and Jean François Copé do not agree about the elections.

And The two candidates proclame victory for themselves.

After the departure of Nicolas Sarkozy, The UMP had to  elect a new candidate between Francois Fillon (former Prime Minister to Sarkozy) and François Copé.
The day of elections was on November 18, 2012.
 The election was really complicated.
Because we didn't knew the name of the winner.
The votes are too similar, and maybe there was cheating.
After a first deliberation, François Copé was elected president of U.M.P.
But two or three days after, François Fillon announced that the Overseas Departments had been forgotten
And with the voices of Overseas allow to win the election. The battle continues.
The majority of activists were exceeded by this situation.

Article written when we didn’t know the outcome of the election… Well, do we know more today, really?

Cinnamon wrote about a weird piece of news!

I'm going to talk about an  article fromThe Daily Telegraph about an Englishman ( Alun Morgan ) who suffered a stroke and, when he woke up, he could only speak Welsh while he had never spoken that language before.

He suffers from Aphasia. ( " ... individuals who were previously able to communicate through speaking, reading and writing become more limited in their ability to do so . ")

Moreover, he just lived a year in Wales with his grandmother who is Welsh. He was only 10 years old .

When we know that, we can suppose he didn't have enough time to learn this language and he was too young to remember some of  the words that he learned ...
Nevertheless, after his stroke, he just spoke Welsh and had totally forgotten English ...
So, we can understand that his brain learnt Welsh language during this year without Alun Morgan knowing it .

Perhaps Welsh replaced English language in his brain here.

That could be proved  when Mr Morgan says : " I've managed to remember English but I've almost forgotten Welsh again . "

Because, after his stroke, he spoke only Welsh and forgot English, and when he tried to speak English again, he forgot Welsh step by step .

But there is no explanation about that in this article, it's just my own interpretation.

The reporter explains that Aphasia is caused by damage of some brain areas responsible of making language ( Broca and Wernicke areas: Responsible of language comprehension, meaning. ).

This damage is the stroke ( : " blood supply to brain is cut off and areas starved of oxygen, brain cells die and damage can injured ." ) .

I found this article really interesting and complete : We can learn what is an Aphasia, how it works and the other cases who suffered Aphasia ...

But I think that something is missing :
What happened in the brain to speak suddenly an other language ?

Why did he speak Welch and not an other language like German, French or other that he could heard before too ?

Why, after his stroke, did he forget English and when he remembered English, he forgot Welsh again ?

I also found this article a little bit funny because uncommon and it makes me want to try "Aphasia" ( to progress in English, for example )
If it weren't a medical condition, it could be fun! Yet I would get unemployed!   Mrs P.

I know that's strange but, I think that's certainly a strange and fascinating experience.
Suddenly speaking with a Chinese accent or speaking currently Russian ... It must be exciting!

Gangnam style breaks YouTube record! by Fafa

All the people know Psy with his song Gangnam Style. This video has become the most watched in Youtube with more than 805 m views.

The real name of Psy is Park Jae-sang and now he has become an international star since Gangnam Style was released in July.

At first the Gangnam style was just a fun with his friends and the lyrics did not make sense and he wanted to change the lyrics but when he put it on Youtube it made such a buzz on the internet and the song became famous as a  funny song, so he didn't.

And thanks to this blog, you too can sing along and dance the Horse Dance!!!

In October Gangnam Style became the first Korean song to top the official UK pop chart.

Psy will be in the NRJ music awards 2013 January 26th and may be he will win an award!

Jade, on the news... old and new!

I chose to speak about the re-election of Barack Obama to the presidency of the United States, even if it's not completely new anymore.

(yet the inaugural ceremony has just taken place, so it's still the news- Mrs P)

Obama was set against Mitt Romney who is a mormon. He was the Republican party's nominee for the election and he was also the 70th governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007.

Barack Obama overtook the fateful helm of 270 presidential electors to obtain a second mandate.

Indeed he obtained 303 votes against 2000 for Mitt Romney.

Furthermore, this tweet of the "Four More Years" of Barack Obama to announce his victory became the message the most shared since the creation of the social network (more than 420,000 tweets in 2 hours).

At the same time, it collected more than 1,3 millions of "Likes" and 186,000 sharings on Facebook.

In my opinion, it's a good thing that he was re-elected. and you? What's your opinion?

Another view on Sandy Hook School Shooting, by Cockatoo.

My article is about the speech of the president of United States: Barack Obama, who addressed an audience about the mass shooting of Sandy Hook elementary school.
A heavily armed gunman opened the fire on this school and killed at least twenty-six people, including twenty children.
Barack Obama delivered the most impassioned speech of his presidency on sunday night, addressing the fifteen grieving families of Newtown.
He said the "carnage" of mass shootings must end.

He promised to engage law enforcement, parents, educators and others in a dialogue on how to prevent further mass shootings.

Furthermore, we cannot accept events like this as routine.

Obama talked about the burden he has had to carry, as all modern US presidents do, of comforting the survivors of mass shootings and consoling the families of victims.
More over, he travelled to Fort Hood (Texas) the 5th November 2009; to Tucson (Arizona) the 8th January 2011 and Aurora (Colorado) the 20th July.
All these travels were to remember the persons who were killed in many places.
Obama's oratory was not the only poignant point in this exceptionnal evening.
There was the haunting singing by Rabbi Shaul Praver of Congregation Adath Israel of El Maleh Rachamim, the Hebrew prayer for the soul of the departed traditionally chanted at a funeral.

More over, there was the reading of Psalm 23 by the episcopal pastor Kathleen Adams-Shepard. Obama said " I'll use whatever power I have to prevent the type of tragedy that occured in Newtown".
The president also read out slowly ,and stopping occasionally , the names of the twenty children who lost their lives that Friday, to contain his own emotions:

" God has called them all home, To those of us who remain, let us find the strengh to carry on and make our country worthy of their memory"
His main message is: "We can't tolerate this anymore. These tragedies must end. And to end, we must change".

About The Mystery of Mr Reinfield and Count Dracula: a collective article by the Extra English 1st years

Last Thursday, we went to the theatre, to see a play in English, by the Théatre en Anglais Company.

Most pupils were a bit worried about not understanding the play but after the show, they were all pleasantly surprised to have been able to understand the plot  and more importantly, to enjoy it !

So , pupils, what did you like best?

"The play was a great success: we had a good time!

We were surprised there were not more actors as there are many characters in the play.

It was well done and easy to understand for the French audience.
It was a good adaptation of the book.

The story was captivating although a bit slow by moment but it was cool, we liked it.

Our favourite part was when Dracula went to London, it was exciting to see the following events.

Lucy was beautiful but excessive.

Mina was very well played too. The best for us. She was present physically AND emotionnally.

We also liked Jonathan Harker and Dracula, but he seemed a bit tense.   "

Wolfgang and Blackman

"We all thought that the play was very good and funny. It was also captivating.

We thought it would be boring but it wasn't!

All the actors acted well , the emotions of the characters were very well transmitted . The special effects were simple but great and they were clever!

Our favourite part was at the end , when Mina was saved, because it would have been sad if she had died...

We liked all the actors, especially the man who played Jonathan, because he was very funny!

And before the play, all the actors were very funny and nice with us!"

Nomika, Googoo and Tsitsa.

"Let's talk about Thomas Svaldi!

He comes from Denver, Colorado. He was born in 1984.

We really enjoyed the way he played, because he was able to change characters very quickly and with various expressions.

Besides, he was kind of funny.

Even before the beginning of the play, he put us in the mood.

We liked the way he made us share another universe, with all the parts he played (Jonathan; a doctor; Arthur...)"

Rider, SweetLisa; Amazilena and YMCMB

"From the start to  the beginning  the show was fun, even before the beginning of the play! We enjoyed when the actors sat in the theatre and talked with us.

Their play was great because they were only five to play more than ten characters.

When they were playing and going backstage to change their costume, they were quick and well dressed. We didn't even realize they were changing clothes.

The videoprojection, the sounds effects and smokes were very synchronized and very well done.

We especially liked Renfield!

During the play, we liked the beginning because it was quite crazy, and also when Lucy and Mina are talking about Lucy's fiancés.

Another thing, Mina's scream was loud and terrifying and it made our flesh creep!

PS: You all played very well!"

Folt; K-za; Somethingintheway and Imnotyou

"As for me, I really enjoyed the show and I'm delighted the pupils liked it too (to their surprise, for most of them!).

I don't really know what to make of the song at the beginning and I'm still in two minds about the girls playing the horses (oh what a lively debate we had about that afterwards!!!),
but everything was very well played (a special mention to Mina -who was very moving- and to Dracula, who was really frightening..."

Mrs P.

Ready to go and watch another play in English next year?

Lil, on Sandy Hook School shooting.

Hello Bloggers, it's Lil.

Mrs P. wants us to react to a specific piece of News.

She didn't want us to  react to a political subject (it's not exactly what I said- Mrs P.) but I think we must think about the tragedy that happened at Sandy Hook school in Connecticut, USA.

Do you think that in the USA they should prohibit the carrying of weapons?

For me we shouldn't stop the sale of weapons because it's part of the American constitution.
(The 2nd Amendment, the "right to keep and bear arms")

Maybe there are a lot of murders but the continent is larger than  France.

The people feel safe with them and they don't want to ban them.

And you, do you think that we must stop and ban weapons for individuals because a mad man kills people?

PS : we can kill with words

An interesting point of view, Lil, yet  quite unexpected... I thought all pupils would be against weapons... Mrs P.

GhostWolf is a lamb!

Yesterday we went to see a play, in English (yes, we did!) and GhostWolf couldn't see the play, because he helped a friend in distress, who was sick, and I thank him for that!

More about the play next week, with an entry by the Extra English 1st years... Have a nice week-end!

Guigz18 on South Korean elections

My article is about the election of the first female president in South Korea.

Park Geun-Hye was the candidate of the conservative party, she has dedicated her life to politic and she is the daughter of Park Chung-Hee who reigned on the country from 1961 until 1978.

She won 51,6 % of the vote against 48 % for Moon Jae-In.

60 years single, childless, Park played this status, presenting herself as a modern and free woman to seduce left voters tired of business favoritism benefiting to political economy's large families of the country.

She thinks that her election will help to improve the economy of the country.

Ironically, Ms. Park will be able to finish at the top of the polls by defeating one of the historical opponent during the regime of her father, Moon Jae-in, "face" of the dark years who paid for his freedom its commitment to human rights .

The brutal reign of his father on the "Republic of Korea" lasted eighteen years, until his assassination in 1979.

Park Geun-hye has been very popular with the old electorate and conservative who credits his father's economic miracle South Korea after the Korean War (1950-1953).

This is something surprising because this is a first in this country but I think it's normal that it does not have an impact like the election of Barack Obama in 2007.
The context and the power of the country are not the same.
Nevertheless I think it's encouraging for the future of the country.

Commenting on the news: by Jules

We all heard about the adoption for homosexuals, well I think people should stop talking about it .

Many men and women had children before discovering or revealing their homosexuality, well they bring them up and most of the time they do it well. The homoparenthood exists and the homosexual adoption exists and a lot of country aloud it, but why not France ? I mean for me the adoption for homosexuals is a logical right and common sense and people can not say that « the homoparenthood is horrible ». There are hundreds and thousands of children born with a mother and a father and one day, during their life, one of the two parents discovers that he or she is homosexual, it's not a disease but it's the daily life and nobody can juge it, it's just like that.

The fact that two persons bring up children together, having adopting them together, giving them all the love they need, helping and protecting them is enough and homosexuals can do it. I'm mean it's not an obligation to have a mother an a father and it's not a flaw to have two mothers or two fathers . Who knows ? The homosexuals may be more able to bring children up than some heterosexuals persons …

Moreover, a lot of mothers bring their children up alone without a father to help and they do it very well ! So we can not say that it's not acceptable to not have two parents of the opposite sex . If a child has a mother and a father well it's a chance for him but it is not always possible and it doeasn't mean that he will more suffer .

To be homosexual or heterosexual is a way of life, people of the 21stcentuary have to bear it mind . Mentalities have to change .

Commenting on the news: Holysnail's article.

Holysnail, like Cinderella, waited until midnight to send her article on the due day, but it finally arrived!

Okay people. Today is a very sad day for Holysnail. Holysnail isn't going to point out its nose of its shell anymore.

Holysnail is ashamed...ashamed of the stupidity of people. And Holysnail is even more ashamed when the stupidity is from
someone who's from a super wonderful and great country like India.
How can the birthplace of Chicken Tandoori  have such ignorant people ?
Actually I don't know if its ignorance or stupidity, but the following facts can shock some of you. So if you're either pregnant or the oversensitive type, don't read.

Okay, so, to sum up:
A man named Rajesh Shah, has opened a store.
AND THIS IS SCANDALOUS. TO OPEN A STORE IN INDIA.
Haha. I'm Kidding. I mean, I have no problem with that.
The problem is that he called his clothes store "HITLER".
And on the "I" of "Hitler"he put the Swastika symbol, as you can see in the photo below.

Obviously, the Jewish community complained.
Mister Shah, explained that he hasn't done that to annoy them, but because his partner's Grandpa nickname was "Hitler" because of his "strict personality".
He added that he DIDN'T KNOW all the terror the Fuhrer has done, and that he discovered that recently on the net.

Yes, this is totally absurd, ridiculous.
I don't want to excuse this man, but one of the reasons, which can explain this ignorance, is that in India, they don't teach
the history of Nazism as well as in the western countries.
So maybe he didn't really realize.
But another possibility is that Shah and his partner wanted to do the buzz... I mean, a marketing strategy.
And I guess it worked, at least a little.

So, Shah accepted to change the name of his store, but he claims 40 000 rs, (about 570 french euros), because he has no money as he said, to pay for a new store sign.

What I find worrying, is to see Rajesh Shah wearing a Gandhi tee shirt in front of his Hitler store.
Seeing that, I feel like he has killed Gandhi a second time !

I hope you're all fine. Personally I found that very shoking, maybe you don't.
But If you do, I understand.
But I just wanted to add something: Don't think that all the indians are like him.
There are very nice and perfect people from this country.
Of course, Holysnail: we know some of them... Mrs P.

And now a new series of articles, on the news, by the Extra English Terminales!
